Pens Meadow School provides specialist education for pupils aged 3 to 19 with severe, complex, and profound learning difficulties.

Our provision is designed to offer a broad, balanced, and highly contextualised range of learning experiences, ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve the outcomes set out in their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).



At Pens Meadow, we believe that education extends far beyond the traditional classroom. Our curriculum is enhanced by real-world learning opportunities that allow pupils to generalise their skills and knowledge in practical situations.

  • Core Skills: We place a strong emphasis on Communication, English, and Maths, ensuring these core skills are embedded across all subjects. Independence &

  • Life Skills: Developing independence is a central theme of our provision. We support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning, such as physical disabilities or challenging behaviour, through a supportive and nurturing environment.

  • Holistic Development: From themed weekly assemblies celebrating global festivals to "Learning Outside the Classroom," we ensure pupils are active participants in their local community.

We work in close partnership with a wide range of external professionals to provide a seamless support system for our pupils. This includes:

  • Occupational Therapy

    Weekly sessions to support individual sensory needs, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, and feeding requirements. Our therapists also provide specialist training for staff to ensure these strategies are used throughout the school day.

  • Speech and Language Therapy

    Delivered in partnership with Soundswell, our therapists specialise in supporting young people with complex communication needs, including the use of non-body signing systems.

  • Specialist Health Professionals

    We collaborate with physiotherapists, dysphagia specialists, and NHS health teams to ensure the physical and medical wellbeing of all our pupils.
