As pupils transition to our Post 16 site, we continue to prepare them for the challenges for adulthood through an increasing focus on functional skills, life and living skills and preparation for adulthood. Our vision is to empower our young people to have a voice in their future, developing the practical skills and confidence needed to move toward a meaningful and active adult life.
For our oldest pupils, two of our pathways continue. Engagement and Semi Formal.
The engagement pathway is for pupils working below subject specific learning. Exploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence and initiation through communication, thinking, movements and growing awareness of the world around them remain the key focus.
The semi-formal pathway, in Post 16, provides greater opportunities to participate in world related learning and development of skills to support pupil’s aspirations beyond school. In year 13 and 14 pupils on this pathway work towards an OCN/Entry Level qualification.
Our Post 16 curriculum is designed to support all pupils to develop skills to support their confidence and independence beyond school.
Engagement Pathway: This is achieved through targeted personalised small steps of learning which are enhanced by community visits, our Pens Meadow Challenge and clearly identified provision.
Semi Formal Pathway: this is achieved through a curriculum focused on functional skills, independent living, enterprise, vocational and work-related learning and a focus on preparation for adulthood focusing on a pupil's individual aspirations for the future.
