How We Support Growth
At Pens Meadow, we know that progress for our pupils isn’t always a straight line.
Because every child has their own starting point, we use a highly personalised approach to ensure that even the smallest steps forward are recognised and celebrated. Every pupil at Pens Meadow has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We take the long-term outcomes from your child’s EHCP and break them down into smaller, achievable targets called Individual Education Plans (IEPs). These are updated every term, ensuring that your child is always challenged at just the right level.

Early Development Pathway
Through our Early Years Development Tracker, pupil progress is monitored against The Pens Meadow framework, which tracks growth across both the prime and specific areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Sensory and Semi-formal Pathway
We utilise bespoke development documents that allow staff to track and celebrate small, meaningful steps of progress across all subject areas.

Engagement Pathway
Bespoke trackers ensure learning is tailored appropriately for every child or young person, focusing on key areas including My Thinking, My Communication, My Movement, and Me and My World.
For pupils who are not yet engaged in subject-specific study, we implement the national Engagement Model to nurture key learning behaviors: exploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence, and initiation.

Accreditation
As students progress through Years 13 and 14, they work towards achieving recognized OCR Life and Living Skills qualifications to support their transition into adulthood.
Sharing Progress
We don't just wait until the end of the year to check on how your child is doing.
Our staff use a continuous cycle of 'Assess, Plan, Do, and Review.' By constantly observing how a pupil responds to a task, we can adjust our teaching in the moment to make sure they have the best possible chance to succeed.
You are the expert on your child, and your input is vital. We share progress through:
> Termly IEP Reviews:Where we review how targets are being met.
> Annual EHCP Reviews:A formal review of your child or young person's progress towards their agreed EHCP outcomes.
> Annual Achievement Reports: A formal summary of the year's achievements.
